You will find below a selection of links to websites that may be of interest to you.

They might be direct links (such as to German media sites) or more indirect links

to sites where you can practise your German grammar etc. If you have (or stumble

across) an interesting link, please let me know and I'll add it for other people to use. Email us

ARD This is the First German TV channel, which gives you a source of videos and sound

files amongst other goodies. The ARD-Mediathek on the upper right will take you to

a selection of videocasts and podcasts. If you want their news, then look for

tagesschau.de (or go direct from here). For radio, follow this link to: radio.ARD

ZDF This is the Second German TV channel and is good for news (Heute and

Heute Journal) and documentaries, as well as general entertainment programmes.

They have an especially useful 100 Sekunden news video section which gives you

a quick summary of the main stories of the day. Just look for thetab "heute-Nachrichten"

on the homepage and you'll find the video on the upper right of the page you go to.

Deutsche Welle This is the German international service equivalent to the BBC World

Service. You'll find news broadcasts, documentaries, videos on German regions,

and information on all aspects of German language and culture. Sometimes, the English

pages contain versions of video clips so you can check you have understood correctly.

aboutgerman.net run by a man with the unlikely name of Hyde Flippo who is a mine

of information about German language, culture etc. and this is a good source of practice

material. This site is slanted toward the North American reader but is still very useful.

german.about.com If this sounds similar to the Hyde Flippo site, it's because he used to

run this but left them to set up his own site. I'm not sure how useful this is now that

Hyde has left it, but it's worth trying out. Let me know if you have an opinion either way.

Vorleser.net is a source of free (gratis or kostenlos) as well as paid-for audio books.

Covering much of German classical literature and Märchen, this is an interesting site to

browse through. If you go to their Links tab you'll find an extensive list of other audiobook

sites.

Language guide has a wealth of sound files for building vocabulary and learning pronunciation.

(Level: Basic to Intermediate, although there is the odd item of vocabulary that even Advanced

students might find useful). Definitely worth trying.

wwiTV.com lists thousands of TV and radio stations all over the world, covering all the major (and

many minor) languages. Links don't always work, but it's worth trying the German ones as they tend

to be quite reliable.
